Anthropologie Inspired Zinc Letters

Hi everyone, its me again! Long time no blog huh? My life has been insanely busy this last month but things are finally starting to calm down a bit so I that I can get back into blogging mode.  Heck, maybe I'll even get to blog more than once every two weeks lol.  Anyway, If you follow me on instagram @ acupofmai you may already have seen a few sneak peek of  DIY Anthropologie inspired zinc letter I did few weeks ago.  We all have seen the silver letters at Anthropologie. I even bought letter "K" you may have seen it on my hallway gallery, but its so easy to make your own for a fraction of the cost! I bought 5 letters including paints and brush for less than the price of one at Anthro.

Supplies:
Black acrylic paint, folk art pearl paint, cardboard letters and a paint brush

Directions:
Paint the letters all black and let them dry for about 10 minutes.  Then dip your brush into pearl paint use long stokes to paint over the black. The silver coat will give it the texture to look like a matte metal.   Let that coat dry for another 10 minutes and paint over another second coat if you prefer.  Let it dry completely and hang them wherever you want!

I picked up these paper mache letter from Hobby Lobby for $ 2.47 a piece

You can see the comparison here: letter "H" is the diy version and "K" is from Anthropologie. Pretty similar right?

You really can't mess this up just go with what you think looks good. You might not be able to tell in the photos but the finish is really awesome. You wouldn't guess they were paper mache.

Btw, we're getting closer to that big "Guest bedroom" reveal post.  Hope you enjoy this tutorial and have a happy weekend ahead!

Hi Mai, I missed your posts! but totally understand how life can just get so crazy at times. This is such a great idea, I think they look better than the Anthropologie ones. Kate xo

Such a great idea. Easier to hang too since they are lighter, I would imagine. Where did you get the cardboard letters?

Hi Kate!

How have you been? Sorry I haven't been around for a while. I'll send you an email about guest blogging soon.

@ Alice- Yes, they're super easy to hang--you can use 3M tape. I got the letter from Hobby Lobby.

It's great to see what you've been up to, Mai - personally, I think your "H" looks better than Anthropologie's "K", but that's just me... And can't wait to see more of the final reveal...

I love this post. I also love your blog and was so excited to see that you had posted a new post.
Why did you paint the letters black first, and also any recommendations on where i can get the letters from if i'm not near a HL?

It's good to see a new post from you. I'm liking the Zinc Lettering. I think I might have to try this out whenever I get a house of my own. I have a couple of ideas in mind I can utilize with this concept.
